    About BPI

The pioneering research organization behind Most Loved Workplace® — 25 years defining the science of workplace culture, employee love, and organizational performance.

    Our Story

25 Years Building the Science of Workplace Culture

Founded in 2001 by organizational psychologist and CEO Louis Carter, Best Practice Institute began as a leadership research and executive development organization working directly with senior leaders across major institutions and enterprises.

Through its executive forums and leadership programs, BPI has convened and delivered sessions with the United Nations, the Pentagon, the Federal Reserve, and professional organizations such as SHRM. BPI also established a Senior Executive Board, bringing together Fortune 500 executives and HR leaders to collaborate on leadership, talent, and organizational strategy.

Carter is co-editor of Best Practices in Leadership Development and Organization Change (Jossey-Bass, 2004) and Best Practices in Talent Management (Jossey-Bass, 2009), and author of In Great Company (McGraw-Hill, 2019). He is also recognized as a Marshall Goldsmith Top 100 Coach.

That research became the foundation for Most Loved Workplace® and the Love of Workplace Index™ — the psychometric instruments and certification system now featured in The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.

    25 years of work

A real record of leadership research, executive forums, and workplace culture methodology.

BPI's authority comes from published books, direct work with senior leaders, the creation of LOWI™, and the evolution of Most Loved Workplace® into a certification and benchmarking program.
